EDITORIAL
In 2022 we want ANT LEADERS!
Being a leader is a much sought-after skill
but an increasing challenge!
Information has become volatile, the truth
today can be a big mistake tomorrow, and what
we think is real can dematerialize in seconds.
This makes leadership an (almost) radical
activity, where "failure is inevitable"; we are left
trying to figure out when it will happen, how it
will happen, what damage will be done to
people's lives, and if it is possible to repair it. To
survive this "kind of permanent crisis
management," we need ant leaders!
In this chaotic environment, there are
nevertheless more controlled contexts and
areas of activity where the risk is reasonably
predictable that do not demand so much from
their leaders; fortunately!
Courses for "instant leaders" proliferate on
the Internet, selling to the less attentive the
idea that anyone can be one, which is a
mistake! There is some irresponsibility here in
the promise of quick results to generate sales,
a diametrical phenomenon across the modern
economy. Attitudes of "super-positive leader,"
"hyper- motivator leader," "best-friend-of-the-
workers leader," among others, are sold, which,
being exaggerated, generate toxic, unbalanced
attitudes that cause more harm than good to
companies, teams, and individuals.
In everything in life, there are good things,
some so-so and some bad; acting as if
everything is always "wonderful" is the first
step to losing the most competent members of
the team, who understand the phenomenon of
leadership or are also the most qualified.
Is this the kind of leader we need in 2022?
Obviously not!

What we need are ant leaders!
Ÿ They have the needed training, some
natural aptitude, a lot of experience, a very
high degree of organization and
responsibility, and therefore tremendous
and genuine respect for people!
Ÿ They understand that leading is often a
lonely exercise, and they take the
responsibility to make a less good decision
when there are no good decisions.
Ÿ They encourage and are solidary with the
team when the result is not good;
Ÿ They know the consequences of their work;
so, they don't ask anything from the team
that they are unwilling to do, setting an
example and saying "come" instead of "go"!
Ÿ They embrace challenges and take risks but
keep the team informed at all times with
transparency.
Ÿ They have only one word, and for that, they
are trustworthy people.
Ant-leaders have one foot in respect and one
foot in responsibility, one foot in solidarity and
one foot in example, one foot in transparency and
one foot in trust!
Yes, that's 6 feet... that's why they are ants!
